Wrestling Goes 2-1 at Buffalo Duals on Saturday


BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University wrestling went 2-1 at the Buffalo Duals on Saturday, defeating Findlay and Gardner-Webb and dropping their lone match to host Buffalo. Following the weekend, the Huskies are 3-1 in dual matches, 1-0 in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL).

In the first round, the Huskies beat Findlay, 20-18. Like Tuesday's win over Pittsburgh, the match came down to heavyweight where Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) came through with a win for Bloomsburg.

Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) got an 18-3 technical fall win at 125 pounds to start the match, while at 141 pounds Brad Forbes (Downingtown/Downingtown) pinned Findlay's Dave Manoogian 3:25 into the match.

At 157 pounds, Aric Fuhrman (Spring Grove/Delone Catholic) got a 9-5 decision win, before the Oilers rattled off three straight wins to take a 18-14 lead going into the 197-pound bout. Jesse Hasseman (Franklin, IN/Franklin) came up with a big win, defeating Findlay's Justin Tazzi in a 5-2 decision to cut the Oilers' lead to 18-17.

In the final match, Spaid got a 9-2 decision to win the match for the Huskies.

In the second round of the day, the Huskies lost to Buffalo, 30-11, as Bloomsburg won only three bouts.

Sees got another technical fall win 6:51 into the bout at 125 pounds, while at 149 pounds, George Hickman (Wilmington, NC/Riverside) got a tight 2-1 decision win for Bloomsburg

At 157 pounds, Fuhrman got his second win of the day with a 5-2 decision win over Buffalo's John Cummings.

In their final match of the day, the Huskies dropped only three bouts, beating Gardner-Webb, 28-9.

Justin Thomas (Hunlock Creek/Benton) got his first dual-match win of the season at 125 pounds, defeating Courtney Roberts, 12-5. Forbes got his second win of the day at 141 pounds, defeating A.J. Renteria in a 5-2 decision.

Fuhrman completed an undefeated day with an 11-3 major decision over Gardner-Webb's Adam Glaser at 157 pounds. Jason Crawford (New Albany/Wyalusing Valley) won a 7-0 decision for the Huskies at 165 pounds, while at 184 pounds fellow freshman Andrew Jordan (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) got a close 4-3 decision win.

Hasseman got a forfeit win at 197 pounds, while at heavyweight, Spaid pinned Ricky Wilson at the 2:10 mark. The Huskies will be idle until Dec. 2 when they travel to the Purdue Duals.
